Daily maintenance of the brake pads
The brake pads which belongs to consumables would gradually fray umtil the abration reaches a utmost limit position. Then it's a must to replace the frayed brake pads in to avoid accident. Caution is appealed, for sometimes driving a car with frayed brake pads could be life-threatening. Generally speaking, the front brake pads frays relatively quicker compared with the rear brake pads. Attention should be paid on the following aspects in the daily maintenance:
1. Under normal condition, check the brake pads once every 5000 miles to see not only how thick of the remanent remained, but also how serious the brake pads is frayed. See whether both sides in the same condition, whether moving easily, etc. Once abnormal condition found, instant treatment is needed.
2. Normally the brake pads is composed of iron scaleboard and friction material. Be cautious to replace brake pads timely. Dont wait until the friction material is worn out. Take the front brake pads of Jetta for example, the thickness of the new block is 14mm, while the utmost limit thickness is 7 mm which includes 4mm of iron scaleboard and 3 mm of friction material. A car with antomatic warning function, once its brake pads reach the utmost limit thickness, will show the figure on the meter so that the driver know it's time to change a new brake pads. A brake pads that reached its utmost limit thickness requires to be replaced immediately. If not, although the car still can work for a while, it wont be safe to drive.
3. After a new brake pads is fixed, make sure to stamp it first to eliminate the clearance between the brake pads and the retarding disc so as to avoid accident.
4. You need to drive 200 kilometers before the new brake pads reach its best functional condition. Be cautious in driving when the brake pads is newly fixed.
